George Skibine

George Skibine (born January 30, 1920, Yasnaya Poliana, Kaliningrad, Russia – died January 14, 1981, Dallas, Texas) was a ballet dancer with the Ballets Russes from the age of five years old, as an extra in ''Petrouchka''.
Born as Yuril Borisovich Skibin, the son of Boris Skibine (né Skibin), a member of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, he studied with various teachers including Preobrajenska, Sedova, and Volininewas, before making his debut in 1938, at age 18, with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo (later the Marquis de Cuevas Ballet). He was named choreographer in 1950. He later served as artistic director for the Harkness Ballet (1964-66) and the Dallas Civic Ballet (1969).
He was made Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres in 1967.〔(Profile at answers.com )〕

Skibine was married to American ballerina Marjorie Tallchief, younger sister of prima ballerina Maria Tallchief. The couple had two children and remained married until his death in 1981 at the age of 60 from undisclosed causes.
